Earliest Ancestor In America
The following shows the earliest confirmed date that each family was in America. If the immigrant to America is known, they are listed. If multiple direct ancestors in a family immigrated together, the person with the earliest birth date is listed. For example, if a father and son are both direct ancestors and immigrated at the same time, the father will be listed as the immigrant as he was likely the primary immigrant.

Helm
IMMIGRANT: Johann (Phillip)
Johann was the first Helm in our line to immigrate to America. He immigrated from Germany to the United States in 1857. In 1860, he is found living in Putnam County.
1861
Herzberger
IMMIGRANT: Maria Katherina Elizabeth (mary)
Mary traveled to America on the ship Cedar with no other Herzbergers listed on the ship’s passenger list. She arrived in New York in June 1861 and listed her occupation as Gentleman’s servant.

Kutzner
IMMIGRANT: Herman
Herman is said to have come to the country with a sister leaving his family, including other siblings, behind in Germany. He is believed to have lived near Somonsuk, Illinois for a short time before moving to Marshall County,
Notes from Reunion state that Herman may have immigrated in 1864.

Schmidt
IMMIGRANT: Wilhelmina “Minnie”
Minnie immigrated to the United States when she was 20, per Reunion notes. This implies 1884 or early 1885. Caroline, Minnie’s mother, also immigrated to the United States and is buried in Marshall County, Iowa.
Minnie had at least one sister, Otillia, that also immigrated to the United States and lived in the Marshall County, Iowa area.
Minnie married Herman Kutzner in December 1885.
