Josiah Cox, son of Thomas Cox and Phebe Fellow, lived his life in North Carolina.

Marriage

In 1777, he married his bride Judith Peelle at the Friends meeting house. They were the parents of at least 8 children:

  • Anna [m. John Overman]
  • Charity [m. John Musgrave]
  • John [m. Elizabeth Bass]
  • Sarah “Sally”
  • Phebe [m. Jesse Marine]
  • Edmund
  • Abigail “Abba”
  • Betty [m.Andrews]

His Will

In his will Josiah listed his children and stated specific inheritances including specifying which slaves each child would inherit.  The interesting thing about this is that he was a Quaker and Quakers generally disapproved of slavery.
