Martha (Johnson) Peelle

 

Martha Johnson, daughter of William Johnson and Rachel Smith, was born in near Williamsburg in Wayne County, Indiana in 1826.  She was the oldest daughter and became an orphan when her father died when she was 15. Her mother had died two years earlier. Martha is said to have had dark hair and dark eyes in her younger years.

 

Marriage

In 1845, she married Passco Peelle.  She became the mother of 8 children and the grandmother to at least 36 (although not all survived to adulthood).

 

Martha died of old age at her daughter’s home near Hiattville, Kansas.

 

Lydia D. Harris was Martha’s sister. Lydia lived with her father’s sister Anne’s family after her father died. Sarah Campbell is Anne’s daughter. She was older than Lydia, being closer to Martha’s age.
