Margaret Blane was born about 1762 in Botecourt, Virgina. Her parents are unknown.

It is said that Margaret was part  or full Native American.  In one version, she was an Native American orphan that was taken in by Euro-Americans.  In another, she was only half Native American. One of her grandsons claimed her as Cherokee and applied for benefits available to Native Americans.

According to notes from other researchers, they attempted to use DNA to determine a connection to Native Americans without success.  Likewise, although our family has many DNA connections to other descendants who claim Margaret as an ancestor, none of the people analyzed to date show Native American DNA.  It is likely that this story is just folklore like the stories in many families regarding connections to Native Americans.  However, it could be that the DNA is very diluted  due to the many generations and that  the connection simply doesn’t show up.

Marriage

In 1783, Margaret married Lawrence Conner in Botecourt, Virginia.  They later lived in Kentucky raising a large family.

Margaret died in Cumberland County, Kentucky in 1825.
