Seth M. Pellett, son of Abel John and Eunity (Harrision) Pellett, was born in Ohio.  However, the exact location is still in question. He married Aseneth Crawford, daughter of Alfred W. and Lydia (Andrus) Crawford in Holmes County, Ohio.

 

Moving, Moving, Moving

Their first seven children were born in Ohio with at least part of them being born in Logan County.  Soon after their seventh child was born in 1867, the family moved to Bourbon County, Kansas settling near Garland.  In Kansas Aseneth gave birth to five more children.

 

The Children

Seth and Aseneth’s children were:

  • Purthena who died at age 5 and was buried in Ohio.
  • Alfred Crawford “Alf” was born in Ohio.  He married Cordelia Abbott in 1878 when Cordelia was only 16 years old. After Cordelia died at age 46, Alf married Mary Hendrickson.
  • Mary, who had been born in Ohio,  married William Carter.  They lived in the Fort Scott area.
  • Cynthia Ann was born in Ohio.  She married Jasper Jones.  However, Jasper died only two years after they were married.  Several years later Cynthia married Fred Van Brunt.
  • Lincoln “Link” was born in Ohio. He  married Clara (Belle) Scott at her parents’ home in 1887.
  • Ezra Mitchell was born in Ohio.  He married  Lillie Carver, who was several years his junior. They became the parents to 11 children over the next twenty years.
  • Lydia, who was the last of Seth and Aseneth’s children born in Ohio, married  Lincoln Johnston in 1886 in Bourbon County, Kansas.
  • Lorenzo Dow “Lory” was born in Kansas. He married Mary Emerick.
  • Henry
  • Ellen married Charles Beagles in 1894.
  • Viola Estella died only a few days after birth.
  • Seth Claney first married Emma Miller in 1902.  After her death only a few years later, Seth married Sadie Vandermullen.

 

Seth and Aseneth remained in Bourbon County for the remainder of their life.
